SIPRI is an independent international research institute who work on problems of peace and conflict. Research programs focus on arms control and disarmament, analysis of armed conflicts and conflict management as well as global and regional security.

The institute was established in 1966 after a decision by the Swedish Parliament and receives a substantial part of its funding through an annual grant from the Swedish Government. The Institute also seeks financial support from other organizations in order to carry out its broad research programme. The staff and the Governing Board are international. SIPRI is governed by its Statutes.

SIPRI's organization is comprised of a Governing Board, Director, Deputy Director, Research Staff Collegium and support staff. The Staff of about 50-60 persons is international.

Located in Sweden, the Institute offers a unique platform for researchers from different countries to work in close cooperation. The Institute also hosts guest researchers and interns who work on issues related to the SIPRI research programmes.
