Abstract:

From 14-31 October 2002, as part of the Inaugural Lecture of the UOC's 2002-2003 Academic Year - given by Juan Manuel Suárez del Toro, president of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, entitled New technology: an opportunity for humanitarian action, a virtual debate was held on The Web at the service of cooperation, or cooperation at the service of the Web? The debate, open to all, focused on how the Internet has changed or could change the habits of those organizations –particularly non-government ones– that are working for solidarity, as well as of the beneficiaries of that solidarity, and also looked into issues such as the digital divide, networking and the role of the University itself in cooperation via ICT.
