The Institute's mission is 'to become the world's leading independent centre of excellence in academic research on the impact of the Internet on society, and in informing policy and generating debate'.
The strategic aims of the Institute are:
* To undertake high quality academic research that is methodologically open, innovative and critical, and global in outlook and reach. * To develop excellent teaching initiatives.
* To engage with wider audiences outside the OII.
