Abstract:

This is the first in a series of working papers produced by the Global Impact Study to share early results from our surveys of operators, users, and non-users of public access1 information and communication technologies (ICTs) in libraries, telecenters, and cybercafés. This paper outlines the characteristics of users – their demographics, history of using ICTs and reasons for using public access ICTs – based on descriptive data from the user survey.
